International Power offers a variety of programmes which operate over a two-year period. Structured development activities include formal training and seminars, on-the-job coaching, job shadowing, and site visits. There is also plenty of opportunity to receive regular feedback on performance to support personal and career development. We recognise that everyone has different learning preferences and wherever possible we structure learning to suit individual styles.
All of our graduates are provided with a mentor for the duration of their programme, and a buddy to support integration within the teams they work.
Examples of our graduate programmes are:
-
Corporate Finance
This programme provides the opportunity to train and develop in a team whose primary responsibility is identifying and obtaining funding for International Power’s various activities. It equips graduates to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities required to become a Financial Analyst and play a key role in supporting the Company’s financial decisions and the tools/analysis used to make these.
-
Commercial
This is a rotational programme involving six month placements in four key areas of our commercial stream of business – UK power and gas trading, risk identification and management, valuation and analysis and retail.
-
Operations and Engineering
Our asset based Operations & Engineering (O&E) teams are responsible for operating and maintaining our global assets safely and cost-effectively to deliver the power and/or water outputs required by our customers. The graduate scheme provides a structured development programme and the opportunity to work at a number of our power stations. Graduates gain experience across operations, maintenance and engineering, whilst being supported to achieve chartered engineer status.
Our expectations
We expect to attract graduates who aim to achieve and contribute towards our growing business and who demonstrate a natural intellectual curiosity and a willingness to engage in the International Power experience. If you are willing to bring your energy and enthusiasm to work with you, you will benefit. We expect you to honour the programme and learn as much as you can. Evidence of your growth and contribution is expected.
What you can expect
International Power respects the graduate process and recognises the unique skills and attributes of each and every individual. You will be known to all your colleagues and you can expect to be included as a key member of the team in which you are working. Responsibility and opportunity to participate in projects are provided to graduates where possible.
Although professional development and training are the cornerstones of employee development, employees are also encouraged to add to their learning in a non-working environment.
As such, graduates are encouraged to make use of a learning voucher scheme in order to access non-occupational learning. This can be used for any learning or development you choose, however frivolous or eccentric.
Please note we have not finalised our business requirements relating to 2011 graduate intake and therefore we are not currently accepting applications. Please continue to review this website for further updates.
